Edinburgh – Week 1
We arrived in London at 7am on the 9th of Jan, went through immigration with no problems and then waited for our plane to Edinburgh. We found out that they had cancelled the first flight that morning due to high wind gust in Edinburgh (Eds). So we finally got on our plane at about 11am for our trip up to Eds. It was a bit of a nerve racking flight considering the pilot jump on the blower at the start of the flight and asked everyone to take special note of the safety demonstration. Anyway we landed safely but there was a lot of turbulence. So customs in Edinburgh.......well we got absolutely grilled. They asked us 3 questions:
1. Where were we from?
2. What visa are we travelling on?
3. Where are we staying?
There was nothing about what we were bringing into the country at all. We could have brought whatever we wanted into Eds and they wouldn’t have batted an eyelid. Anyway we stayed at Grove Street Apartments for the first 3 days. Ryan was great and showed us around Eds and we had with him in a quaint pub were I even had an ale. Thursday nothing really happened as we sort of slept for 15 hours.......catch up.
Friday was taken up by us going to the real estate and paying our 6months of rent in advance so we could move into our apartment. We decided to take some of our bags over as we were getting the keys to our apartment that day. So all four of us loaded up with backpacks, day-packs on our front, Phil and Meaghann had some rolling bags and I had my guitar. We were then off on our 30min walk over to the real estate. That night we still spent over at Grove street as we go breakfast included.
Saturday we decided to do some exploring and went into Princes street and had a bit of a look around. We discovered the markets there where you can get all of these free samples of food. Sunday was our adventure to IKEA. We grabbed a double-decker bus for £1 and went on our merry way out to IKEA. We spent quite a few hours out there and it was great as we had to go out and actually get stuff for the unit. We ended up spending a few hundred quid. Well Monday all of our stuff was delivered and so we started building all of the IKEA furniture that night after another day of exploring. We have discovered some unsecured internet here so we are using it while we wait to get our phone connected and then our internet. We have all started to look for work and we have all had phone calls. I had an interview on Thursday with my recruitment agency and hopefully will have a meeting with the company next week. Figures crossed we all get jobs soon.
Anyway until next week I will talk to you all then.
Cheers,
Dan
